Drug Free Communities (DFC)

Tazewell Teen Initiative was awarded DFC. Areas of focus include:

  • Enhance skills by providing training for coalition and community members
    Implement a media advocacy campaign to raise awareness of prescription medication abuse
  • Increase community support of TTI's mission
  • Increase public awareness of the dangers of marijuana usage
  • Promote Social Host Ordinances
  • Reducing access to alcohol

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid is an 8 hour course that gives participants the skills to help someone who is developing or experiencing a mental health crisis. Trainees are taught how to apply a 5 step action plan in a variety of situations, such as a panic attack and engaging with someone that may be suicidal. Trainings are offered for both adult and youth mental health and can be brought on-site to individual agencies.

The Tobacco Prevention program, funded by Illinois Department of Public Health, focuses on promoting the Quit Line (1-866-7848-937), encouraging the reduction of secondhand smoke in Tazewell County households, and Smoke Free Illinois Enforcement.
